When I woke up this morning I received a text message from unknown sender telling me that I won from GMA CHARITY FOUNDATION. The first thing I thought was for sure this is hoax!!! Like the other SMS telling you to send them some load. I won that big amount and they just texted me about it?!?! DFAÂ WARNSÂ OFWs ABOUT BOGUS ‘GMA FOUNDATION’
MANILA, March 13, 2006 (MALAYA) THE Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday warned Filipinos working overseas about a bogus institution called GMA Charity Foundation, which uses President Arroyo’s initials to swindle money from OFWs.
The warning came after Philippine consul general to Hong Kong Alejandrino Vicente reported receiving a complaint from a female OFW who claimed to have been victimized through text messaging by swindlers posing as officers of the said foundation.
Vicente said the OFW received a text message on February 14 informing her that she had won P3 million in an electronic raffle draw during the first anniversary of the GMA Charity Foundation. The OFW was asked to call a certain Atty. Alfred D. Macapagal at mobile number

She was then instructed to deposit a total of P55,000 in a Western Union account in the Philippines in the name of Joel Nadera Chavez, supposedly for the payment of taxes and other fees and as a precondition to her claiming the “prize”.

The OFW complained to the consulate general that after she had deposited the required amount on February 14 and 15, 2006, she could no longer contact the swindlers.
The DFA has repeatedly advised OFWs who receive text messages or e-mails informing them that they have won money in a lottery, but in which they have not participated or sent written application forms to, to immediately ignore these messages as they are certainly meant to swindle money from them.
The DFA said the swindlers specifically target OFWs who are most vulnerable to these scams. – Marilou T. Jumila

Christopher Cabarilla (099995959445) that I have won 950k 2nd prize winner from Manny Pacquiao Charity Foundation, well I knew this is scam targetting mostly OFW’s,,,our Govt. should pay attention about this,,,so fellow OFW’s beware never reply immediately,,,try to investigate first,,,you might be the next victim!!!!

I just receive a msg. august 24,2011..informing that I won 950,000 2ndprice on handog pangkabuhayan sa OFW by the foundation of manny pacquiao… and I need t call atty. lorenzo v. reyes.. I know this is only a scam. so beware of those txt msg..
I’ve known of text scams na for more than a year, and have received many texts, nagkakaiba lang ang name ng foundation, ng scammer, DTI# at sim#, but essentially the same message about winning a huge sum of money. The last text scam I got was yesterday. Apparently this “Sec. Rey A. Cuangco” of “Alliance in Motion Global Inc.” uses the names of known companies he picks out at random for his scam, and he has sim cards of all networks. And as soon as his scam is revealed, he tosses away the sim and buys a new one kasi mura lang naman ang sim nowadays. He’s also a name dropper – the one he used w/ me was Danding Cojuanco. I purposely gave him my deceased mother’s name to see how far he would go with his scam. I entertained his call, trying to get as much info as I could and perhaps get the NBI or Imbestigador in on it when it came time. But my hubby was so noisy in the background and mentioned “NBI”, and so Mr. Cuangco (or whatever his name really is) hung up. Sayang! I had him talking! Oh well… there are other scammers like “Erwin A. Cruz” of the “Phil. Charity Foundation” and others. hehehehe (it was fun while it lasted) =))
P.S.
Forget about informing the DTI who NEVER act on this type of scam, because these scammers are not registered w/ the DTI.
Same here up until now I still get some SMS re: this scam but too bad I can’t juz simply replace my SIM for it has been with me since college days
I also thought of doing the same thing only to get more info about the texter. Sometimes I replied saying “KUMITA NA YAN! IBAHIN MO NMN ANG LINYA MO ” hahaha.
I also wonder if they really got victims coz they kept on doing it…
I also remember this “scam” has been featured in GMA or ABSCBN not juz so sure what’s their action on this. I juz hope it will reach IMBESTIGATOR or NBI.

After receiving that message I already found out that it is not true… but I tried to communicate the number that texted me that message then HE said that, “You can claim the money if you are going to buy a smart buddy calling card and give me the 14 digit pin number of that card”. I know what to do, so i’ll try to follow what does HE said but HE doesn’t know that I am just trying to make him fool… Thanks for those website that help me to gain more knowledge regarding this situation…
Just got a text tonight, Nov.8,2011 from Sec. Rey Cuangco. I am sure it’s a scam and so I checked online and found this website and I am surprised to see that the scam is widespread. The text says:
“notice : Madam/Sir, Congrats ur SIM #had won php 580,000 in our 5th Anv. Prerafle draw’ From: Aliance in Motion Global Inc. For more info pls. txt ur details. Ur name/addrs/d’of birth/Oc cup./I’m sec. Rey Cuangco.”
And oh, Sec. Rey Cuangco’s current number is 926 645 0105. Just sharing this to help warn people .
